Reviving the Art of Syrmak Carpet Weaving

When it comes to the execution of the Globalization project, Assel Baimakhan chose to utilize the regional style and technology of carpet weaving from Central Asian cultures, specifically the Syrmak technique. This traditional method involves meticulous manual work and the use of environmentally friendly and natural materials.

The Globalization wall carpet is crafted with two layers of the finest quality felted wool. The decorative top layer is made of soft and luxurious merino wool, known for its waterproof and breathable properties. This layer is not only visually appealing but also easy to clean, odor-resistant, antimicrobial, and hypoallergenic. The second layer, which forms the foundation of the carpet, is made of a stronger wool that provides rigidity, density, and excellent thermal insulation.

With dimensions of 1500mmx1500mm, the Globalization wall carpet is a true work of art. Its handmade craftsmanship and attention to detail make it a unique and captivating piece. The design incorporates elements of painting and tapestry, resulting in a visually stunning and thought-provoking creation.

To ensure the longevity of the Globalization wall carpet, proper care is essential. Regular dry cleaning is recommended, along with periodic vacuuming on a minimum setting to prevent deformation. For small stains, a sponge dipped in soapy water can be used for gentle cleaning.

Assel Baimakhan embarked on this project in 2021, creating sketches at home in the city of Almaty. The completion of the Globalization wall carpet took place in October 2021, showcasing the designer's dedication and commitment to preserving and reviving the art of Syrmak carpet weaving.

The Globalization wall carpet is not only a testament to Assel Baimakhan's creative vision but also a celebration of the unity of all peoples. By depicting three figures representing various ethnic and racial groups, the design emphasizes the theme of equality and the interconnectedness of humanity.

This exceptional design has been recognized with the Bronze A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category in 2022. This prestigious accolade is bestowed upon designs that exhibit outstanding creativity, technical skill, and resourcefulness, contributing to improvements in quality of life.
